Military Power Supplies
ATC Power Systems was established in 1981 by Joel Bedell with a mission to design and manufacture high-performance military power supplies and custom power converters tailored to the rigorous demands of the military sector. In 1982, Larue Renfroe, founder of Assurance Technology Corporation, provided critical support during ATC Power's formative years. This collaboration marked the beginning of an interdependent partnership between the two companies.
After four decades of keen, insightful leadership, Joel Bedell has retired, having made a profound and lasting contribution to the company's growth and direction. Larue Renfroe now serves as CEO and President, continuing to guide the company's strategic direction along with our General Manager and key personnel, who have 131 years of combined experience.
ATC Power Systems and Assurance Technology Corporation continue to demonstrate strong performance in a dynamic market. We are strategically expanding our investment in advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance efficiency, support growing customer demand, and maintain consistently high product availability.

Standard Quality System
ATC Power Systems maintains a robust Quality Management System that meets or exceeds the standards outlined in MIL-I-45208 (Inspection System Requirements) and MIL-STD-45662 (Calibration System Requirements). All final acceptance equipment is calibrated and maintained in strict accordance with these specifications to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Our Quality Assurance (QA) team is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating all activities necessary to ensure full compliance with contractual and regulatory quality requirements. This system enables comprehensive oversight throughout all phases of the product development process, including design, engineering, manufacturing, and final inspection.
The QA organization operates with full authority and independence to investigate and resolve quality issues. The Manager of Quality Assurance, who reports directly to senior management, leads this function and ensures that quality remains a top priority across the company.
To maintain high standards, QA works closely with all departments. QA is actively involved in internal program reviews to ensure that quality requirements are fully understood and integrated throughout the production lifecycle.

Advanced Thermal Management Strategies
Dissipating extreme heat flux in enclosed, fanless defense electronics requires deliberate thermal architecture from initial PCB layout through final chassis mounting. ATC Power Systems, Inc. uses Insulated Metal Substrates (IMS) with low-thermal-resistance dielectric layers to pull heat away from primary switching MOSFETs and planar magnetics. By replacing standard FR4 boards with aluminum- or copper-backed substrates, thermal conduction pathways transfer heat directly to outer cold plates, preventing internal hotspots during continuous full-load duty in rugged military power supplies.
For high-density, unpressurized airborne pods and sealed ground-vehicle enclosures, liquid spray cooling and conduction-to-rail thermal management keep component junction temperatures well below critical limits across the full -55 °C to +105 °C operating range. Every custom military power supply undergoes rigorous thermal-mechanical shock modeling to ensure structural integrity and stable thermal paths under intense vibration and rapid altitude-induced temperature changes.
Custom Subsystem Design Options
Modern defense architectures require adaptable electrical topologies and ruggedized mechanical packaging to meet stringent size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints.
Â
- Custom Form Factors: Engineering specialized enclosures ranging from ATR-style sealed boxes to 3U and 6U OpenVPX backplane modules designed for high-vibration platforms.
- Multi-Bus Conversion: Integrating high-efficiency AC to DC converter stages capable of accepting variable frequency inputs while supplying isolated, tightly regulated multi-channel DC buses.
- Transient Suppression: Built-in active clamp circuits engineered to absorb high-energy voltage spikes without interrupting downstream mission electronics.
